Original Art

Our field artist has collected and recorded, in paint, some of the more interesting plants he has come across on the expeditions. He has endeavored to detail every spine and tone for prosperity's sake and for the greater good of Scientific Progress. While his novel approach of depiction may seem somewhat unorthodox to the strict taxonomist, it must be remembered that the personality required to withstand the rigors of long travels and biting insects may be... well, a little different.

While this category's name seems sardonic, it accurately reflects the skeptical views of our Generous Benefactor. He (She? They?) are not convinced of the actual existence of these particular animals. We have to admit amongst ourselves that many of them do indeed seem fantastical and stretch the limits of credibility and credulity. Our field artist swears by all things holy and otherwise that he has seen these animals. But whether they were actually witnessed or are the product of too much heat, thirst or local herbal concoction is subject to debate. Nonetheless, we include them here for your perusal. Indeed, they may one day turn up in our finest zoological gardens.

Our Generous Benefactor has commissioned us not only to collect but to record, with sincere veracity, many of the beasts beautiful and horrific that we encounter. Not only their physiognomy but their modes and habits as well can be seen in the plates, canvases and panels our field artist has witnessed.
